Public Relations Student Society of America at Appalachian State
August 2024 - May 2026
Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is the leading organization for students in public relations and communications, dedicated to high ethical standards and professional growth. For me, stepping into a leadership role at our App State chapter was a turning point. It pushed me way out of my comfort zone, giving me hands-on experience collaborating with our board and building a network that bridges the gap between the classroom and the fast-paced world of digital PR.

Director of Content
During an executive board meeting in September 2025, the conversation turned toward elections for the upcoming semester. I hadn't originally planned on switching from Secretary to managing our social media, but I’m so glad I did. This role kickstarted my passion for creating meaningful work and solidified my love for Canva — my absolute ride-or-die. It allowed me to showcase my strategic strengths through creative execution; by managing our social media operations, I achieved a 44% non-follower reach rate and drove over 20,000 views through a mix of educational content and event-based storytelling. I also took the initiative to implement an A/B week posting schedule — alternating between member meeting weeks and executive board weeks. This structure allowed me to organize our content more efficiently, ensuring we stayed consistent while clearly communicating different types of updates to our followers.

Inside the Diamond
Inside the Diamond was a promotional campaign targeted towards all communication and marketing students interested in diving into the world of sports marketing. Our chapter organized a hands-on experience with the App State Athletics Marketing team to bridge the gap between classroom theory and industry practice. We coordinated a full itinerary of facility tours and shadowing opportunities, allowing students to network directly with the team responsible for the App State Athletics brand. On the promotional side of it all, I was tasked to create a campaign to gain attendance for this event.
PRSSA Alumni Spotlights
Alumni Monday
Alumni Monday is a promotional campaign designated to highlight our amazing alumni and the diverse career paths they’ve taken since graduation. To bring these stories to life, I transformed raw alumni testimonials into engaging, high-impact graphics that paired personal success stories with a clean, professional aesthetic. By spotlighting their advice and achievements, I was able to create a consistent weekly touchpoint that not only celebrated our graduates but also provided current students with tangible inspiration for their own professional journeys.
One of my first initiatives as a leader was introducing a series of informative, story-driven graphics to our feed. I noticed an opportunity to diversify our content by moving beyond event announcements and into industry education. To bridge this gap, I began sourcing trending articles and insights from PRSA National, distilling complex topics into easily-digestible visual guides. This shift not only gave our followers more consistent value but also allowed us to showcase the broader professional landscape of public relations right in their social feeds.

Secretary
Serving as Secretary was my first leadership role at Appalachian State, and it will always be a significant milestone for me. In this position, I managed our email marketing and took the initiative to launch a bi-semester newsletter for our members. This role was a massive growth period; it taught me how to advocate for my ideas and gave me the confidence to step out of my comfort zone to create something new for our chapter.
As the primary point of contact for our PRSSA chapter, I was responsible for crafting and managing all internal and external email communications. This role required a high level of attention to detail and a strategic approach to brand voice, as I had to ensure that every message was clear, professional, and engaging for our members. By streamlining our email outreach and maintaining a consistent communication schedule, I helped build a reliable bridge between the executive board and our student body, ensuring that every member stayed informed and connected to our upcoming opportunities.
Beyond standard communications, I pioneered a bi-semester newsletter designed to be a comprehensive resource for our members. I curated content that captured the pulse of our chapter, from recapping the success of past events to outlining upcoming professional development opportunities. A key feature I introduced was the 'Internship Spotlight,' where I sourced and highlighted specific openings to give our members a competitive edge in their career searches. This project allowed me to hone my long-form storytelling and editorial skills while providing tangible value to our chapter’s pre-professional growth.
